On a 1982 CE under the console around the heater controls there is a black box with more than 12 wires on it also looks like some kind of sliding devise,I can't find it in the book, mainly because I don't know what it is I guess. It is a little bigger than a cigarette pack and it is not the diagnostic connector. Anybody know?

Ok, the connector that I was talking in the first post is for the radio and speakers. What I am looking for is the connection S402, which is where 6 blue wires are spliced to 1 blue wire that goes to (J) on the alarm module and brings in the alarms. I need to open them to find out where my alarm is coming from amd trouble shoot it. Can anyone help?

Look at the diagram- there are switches- one on each top, one at each door, then the hood and the rear glass. That's 6. All on light blue wires.
I'd look at the switches for the tops first- they seem to get full of water and die.

The diagram shows a splice where all the blues are spliced to the one going to alarm module. It would be much easier and less tearing apart if I could find the splice and remove the wires and chase the one or however many are grounded.

I understand. GM's splices are usually soldered together inside a crimped sleeve. The only way to get a single wire out is to cut it off outside of the bundle. It can be done, but getting them back together in the same location is nearly impossible.
You have the factory manual? It will list S402 and give you a good idea of where it is.

Thanks Tim for taking the time to reply.
I know it is S402 and I have know trouble taking wires apart and putting back together. But I have the repair book and I cannot tell where S402 is. I must be looking at it wrong,Can you give me a clue?
Thanks,Jim

The only diagram I have access to for 82 is the one I sent you the link to.
In your FSM, start at the front of the wiring diagram chapter, they usually put a component location there or on a page or two either way from where it lists the numbers. Sometimes even on the page with the diagram. Usually, the location description is a little obscure- something like, "forward of left instrument cluster". That tells you it's behind the dash panel on the left side. Not that it's hidden inside a wiring harness that's taped and tied together.

Thanks Again,Tim
I will continue looking.
Jim
