'82 Vette Fuel System Question

Dumb question...

I replaced the fuel filter on my '82 vette this evening and put the new filter in with the outlet arrow headed towards the engine. Is this correct?

In the heat of battle I am sure I put it in the same way the old one was facing, but in retrospect the majority of the gas that was leaving the fuel lines was coming out of the line that was closest to the engine. This seems counter intuitive if most of the fuel coming out of the line was on the engine side. How is the fuel system on a C3 plumbed?

I've spent the last hour searching for a fuel system diagram for an '82 vette, but have been less than successful. Does anyone have one?

I can't help you with a diagram, but I can tell you why the appears to be more fuel coming from the engine side.

The reason is that the 1982 Vette was a throttle-body fuel injection system, and it require a fuel pump in the fuel tank, and the fuel line pressures are up to 35 PSI in the fuel line downs stream of the outlet from the tank. Late model cars could exceed that 35 PSI pressure by a good sum.

If you have a shop manual, there should be a procedure for depressurizing the fuel system. But a generic Corvette book I have, says that the fuel pressure is 9 - 13 PSI. The book also says that the pressure regulator is part of the throttle body. But, I could not find a procedure to relieve the pressure in the fuel lines. Best guess would be to put a rag on the fuel line being disconnected

The new fuel filter should be installed with the arrow in the direction of flow, ie: towards the engine.

Sweet, so bottom line is that the outlet does face towards the engine like one would intuitively think.
