84 Defrost control

A friend of mine has a 84 and the vents are the only place the air(heat) comes out of, no defrost or floor heat. I always thought that the default would go back to the defrost mode in case of failure. Any suggestions on the problem?

You may have a vacuum problem...one of the hoses may be off...Let me ask you this...has he worked on the distributor lately? This is where the hose goes through the firewall to the vacuum doorS...check out the pic below...print it out for the guy
