I have a question about my rough idle when I start the car cold. The motor seems to be missing once it is first started. After a minute or so the engine smooths out. I have checked the plugs and nothing seems out of the ordinary. I am new to this Crossfire thing, is there something that needs to be adjusted?
Im thinking its sensor/ECM related. Im going to replace the ECM this winter with an upgraded 89 model. Also Im going to try and replace sensors one at a time regardless if they are bad or not. (Its time anyways)
Im thinking this particular problem is realted to the coolant or the Oil Temp sensor. (Ive not purchased a diagnostic tool yet so I can't plug into my ALDL) When my coolant gets off LO and my Oil Temp get off LO and hit a number my cars runs wonderful. But when the two are on LO My cars chuggin and spittin and sounding really not healthy.
Im going to replace the O2's, Coolant, TPS, IAC Motor, Fan Switch (Having to do some modifing here), and Oil Temp. Those are just to start after that I'll plug in to check the Knock, MAF, and ECM.
Jusst one of my projects...I figure if Im pulling half the motor apart to customize I might as well so these sensors. They are 17 years old and I really don't need to have a nightmare develop.
Hey maybe you should check your fuel pressure out when the cars cold it needs more fuel or could even be the volume of fuel. but I would just do a pressure check and see what it's running at when cold. I'm not shure what the spec is on the 84 being TBI it's probably something around 10-13psi I would guess but you can find that out some where easy enough... check that and let us know what you find. thats just my guess if it seems to run rough only when cold and the plugs look to be normal..

I would first check the basics like wires, cap, rotor, coil , timing (basic tune-up)and go from there. At start up your in open loop so sensor data is limited. The CFI is actually a pretty reliable system. My 82 has less idle/ running issues than the 85.
This is not that uncommon. One of the causes on CFI is the bak cylinders getting too much fuel on startup. I have heard this is inherent in the CFI System. It could also be caused by a leaky injector. Hope this helps.
