I just got some replacement sun visors off E-Bay for my 84. How do you get the old ones out and the new ones in? Looks to screw in somehow but the visor doesn't rotate all the way around.

Help

No, they don't simply "screw in." You'll have to remove the entire windshield header trim pieces first (of course you'll have to have the roof off ;)), then from the top you have to unbolt the visor. The visor uses a spring as a tension holder, which you'll see surrounding the retaining bolt. I was worried when I first saw that spring, worried that it would spring violently from the bolt shaft when I unbolted it. But it did not fly across the room; there is not as much tension on the spring as I thought there would be.

Installation is the reverse of the removal process. I hope this helps you.

Ken,

thanks as I am also going to replace mine........

Glad you were here and available...

When I replaced my visors I did go to the hardware store (a real one...not lowes or HD) and bought two metric nuts with fender washers that do fit on the visor shafts...This makes it easy to put the nut in a nutdriver and you can push down on the spring while turning the nut...makes it easier then using the friction clips.
