just picked up an 85 coupe tpi 350 . its a L 98 and the engine is hydro locked. Im gonna pull the engine next week and tear it down. Id really like to rebuild this engine , maybe get a little more horses, nothing crazy, possibly a cam thats compatable with the tpi unit and computer. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rebuilding it may strike you as funny, but I think you'll get a better response in here (the C4 Technical forum) that in the "Humor Mill." ;)

Good luck.

You have dozens of options, but you better get your checkbook ready. Contact www.tpis.com for starters. That ought to keep you busy for a bit.

Do some research and find out what rear gear you have before you get too deep in engine mods. You can click on the C4 specs page that Rob built here and match it up with the RPO numbers under your console lid. That will let you know if you have a decent gear, or one of the 2.??? models that will be difficult to work around for maximum acceleration, etc.

I am pulling my 85 and buildinga 406 at this time. I have looked at tons of options.

Here goes for some cheap HP:

1: Have the heads ported and a new valve job, should cost @ $400 ( new aluiminum heads are better @ $1200)
2. Port your plenum. Or send you plenum for a swap to TPIS $100 if you so not buy a Miniram or Superram
3. Buy an aftermarket Superram ($1100) , Mini ram ($1300) or just a new intake($390) and larger aftermarket runners ($350)
4. Headers, Hookers #2149 coaetd for $499 or uncoated for $399 or Heddman headers coated for $299.

This should give you @ 50-75HP depending oin what you replace and dont !

Check with www.paceparts.com you can get a NEW injected long block for around 1500.00 , comes with new engine warranty.
Also you can get the vortech heads and the edelbrock TPI intake and runners...engine runs around 300 hp.
