Hello all - Thanks for taking the time to read this. Im new to the world of corvettes and have an 85 with some serious problems. I've already been burnt by one mechanic so I thought I might as well get some other opinions... When I first bought the car I took it to a corvette workshop where I was told that the MAF sensor needed to be replaced. I paid the man $900.00 (AUD) and got it replaced. Since then the car has not been driven very much only 6 months ago we re-registered it and had to replace the harmonic balance weight. After a while 3 weeks the car started running really rough, spluttering etc and the check engine light came on and remained on.... We establishd that the code was in fact 34 (MAF Sensor). The car would be lucky to have done 5000km in this time.. and the guy who replaced it didnt want to know about it. (The car is currently undrivable). I read about the relays etc and we spent a lot of time this week checking and cleaning all the relays. We started the car and it idled a little bit and then died completely as if someone had turned the key off. Tried again and same thing. This time tho the check engine light never came up and when I retrieved the computer codes there was nothing. Unfortunately, we had to take the battery out when playing around under there... Can someone please help me? I dont have another 900.00 to get another maf sensor when the one i just got doesnt even have dust on it....

Good God! Stop throwing cash into that car unless you are sure what the problem is! When it comes to sensors, electronics etc a bad wrench can bag you big time. My MAF was the relays, about $30US to fix. How did you figure the MAF was gone? Look in these forums first!

Get yourself a GM service manual for the specific year vette. It has a great diagnostic chart to troubleshoot these type problems.
Da*n it could be a TPS adjustment and nothing more. You just never know without the manual. I can't tell you how much money I've saved using the manual. This stuff ain't cheap and the L98 is a great engine. Most times it isn't even anything that serious.
Best of luck getting her back on the road and do some searches on CAC.
