85 vette please help

hello all,

i have a funny toggle switch in my console next to the pwr mirror
switch. i have looked in my owners manual and all thru my chilton
and various places on the net and cant find out what it is. the
only reference to another switch i have found is an overdrive switch which i think is for a 4 spd manual trans mine is an auto trans. i pulled the cover off and it has factory wiring and plug
connected to it, but i doesnt seem to activate anything that i am aware of . any help on this would be greatly appreciated
it is driving me nuts. i have posted a pic to see what i mean.

It is not a factory installed switch. It was obviously installed by a previous owner, but for what I cannot say.

when i pulled the console cover off the wires came right out of the harness and it looks like all the other plugs in the car...
is it posible it is for torque converter lockup. it doenst do anything to my knowlege maybe i should put a pulser on it and use my ticker to find it at the fuse box

The harness that runs through the console area include leads for the glovebox light, the seat postioners (if equipped with power seats), the mirror adjustment control, the window switches, and the "seat belt not fastened" light. The cigarette lighter leads end at the information center panel.

The only other switch that could be on your '85 would be leads to the overdrive button, which someone could have changed to a toggle switch as we see in the picture. But your vehicle appears to be an automatic transmission equipped vehicle, which would preclude the overdrive button from the possibilities.

found out what the mystery console switch is

the switch on the console bypasses the security system.
poped the hatch and locked the doors and after i got
my stuff out of the back i shut the hatch the alarm went off. alittle a bell went off in my head, i did the same thing over again but i
flipped the switch the other way and no alarm so my quest is now over. one question though could they have put it in
a better location than in the darn console.
