Hello everyone,

I have a question from a friend of mine.
He has a 86 convertable and wants to remove the aircopump and the airpump (and all the stuff that come's along with these things)
The normal acc. belt will become to long, are there shorter belts on the market that get only the power steering pump, waterpump, crankpully any alternator?
The belt tensioner has to be redirected to another place.. is this possible and where would that be?
I know the B2K belt has a different lenght so maybe there are sorter one's to?
Thanks in advance... :)

Greetings from Holland.
Groeten Peter.

AIRCO - That's a new one on me! :L

You'll have to try several belts before you find one that fits the new set-up, but you'll find one. That's what I did.

If you look closely, you might be able to make out the bracket I fashioned, using the old a/c bracket as a base to start with.

Wow!!!!!!!!!

Hey ken man, that is one kick A$$ engine man!!!!!!!! how many horses you gett'n out of that thing? interesting distributer setup. what kind of intake and plenum is that?

Haha i see what you did in the pic, smudging the AC line conector. enhance the pic :beer

It's a TPiS Mini Ram, with an Electromotive TEC3 engine management system. I have yet to get the thing dialed in, so I don't have accurate horsepower figures available yet. Soon though; I get the car back tomorrow (with the transmission leak finally solved) and then it's off to the dyno. :bu

I'll have more pictures tomorrow in my "Engine Project..." thread, with the intake ductwork finally figured out too. I settled on a piece of aluminum tubing for the gap; looks good too. I'll try to shoot some better shots of the bracket too. :cool

Thanks for your reply and picture Ken,

Very nice engine mods you got indeed!! :)
I have a c3 so i don't have the entire L98 engine setup in my head.
But why do you reconstruct a bracket (airco) when you don't use it anymore?
I know the airpump supports the alternator so when you remove the airpump you'll need a support bracket with pully. But when we already remove the airco so the belt has to be shortend. Is it possible to replace the alternator in the airpump bracket or something like that?

Greetings Peter.

Madvette.com has the air pump replacement pulley and bracket part # 609-137 for $169 or so. I think that is what you are looking for.

Nope, i think you're thinking in the wrong direction or it isn't possible what i want..

A bracket is placed on the block just to support a pump, a pully is there to make the pump work by rotation though the belt! But when the airpump or airco has been removed there are still the replacement brackets of homemade brackets (which i very much like because i can't make a bracket myself, i think!)
But we have a different view on the enginebay of the corvette.
Make everything look original (or let it be original) but what you don't need take it out! But don't replace it by another thing (bracket with pulley)

This vette hasn't got no cat's anymore so the airpump can be taken out. But on the airpump (as i recall) there is a bracket that supports the generator (sorry i said alternator in the previous replies, translation mistake..)
So is there a place on the block to relocate the generator without using a new bracket?

Same thing for the airco (is this such a strange word?) pump..
No replacement brackets and pulley's, just relocate the belt tensioner and look for a shortend belt. Maybe there could be some problems with the belt hitting things in some (new) routing locations that i don't know...
This was the plan, but maybe there are some guy's over here how did this already..?
Ken is doing the same but with brackets as far as i can see now..

Groeten Peter.

Got the Vette back today and shot some pictures for ya. Click 'em to view 'em full-size. :cool

The only thing that came to my mind... WOOOOOWWWW!!! :upthumbs :beer

We have taken of the generator and tried to remove the airco pump yesterday, and now i know why you all use replacement brackets. On a c3 the pumps are bolted to the block with there own brackets.. on a c4 there are multiple pumps on 1 bracket.. :( So it would be a serieus problem to relocate the belt tensioner and the generator..
Thanks for the picture's Ken!! Very good stuff! :cool :_rock
Little question; where did you put your maf sensor?

:L In someone else's car. ;LOL
(I changed engine management systems and currently run speed density.) ;)
