86 won't start

The battery is new and fully charged. I tried starting up and it made a single click from under the hood and the car was.. just dead. I turn my headlights on and the car magically starts. I go to my friends house and again, doesnt wanna wake up. Unfortunately the headlight trick didnt work as i hoped :/ It was too dark out to do anything so I left my car at my friends house. Anyone got any ideas; probably the starter? If so how hard is this to replace by yourself.

Terminal block

Check the terminal block behind the battery for corrosion. Clean each of the terminals and the posts. This is something that I have seen cause simlar problems.

If your getting nothing, no clicks or any thing, start thinking VATS. If your starter and elec. conn. are good, and you can turn the starter over by "jumping" it but no fire, probly VATS. That's what happened to me early on with mine.

Hmm...yes, like the other post, it sounds like the VATS. The pellet in your ignition key may be getting old or corroded. There is a four-minute timeout before you can try again, just remove your key, wait four minutes, and try it again. This procedure is in the owner's manual. You can try to clean the pellet or go to the dealer and get a new key.

Ahhh, so thats why. I didnt know about the 4 min after a failure attempt. So next time it happens ill know what it is. What is the wiring that goes to 2-3 chips for? Its behind the battery and one of them was just dangling, it must have gotten pulled out. so i took out the battery to free the wire so it could reach its slot, would this have an affect on anything?
