I've had my 87 for about 6 months and in the process of repairing a few small items that need attention. Does anyone know where I can purchase a 4+3 shifter knob or OD button. I had seen them in Ecklers, but they don't show them in the current catalog. Thanks for your help

You can get a replacement knob from MidAmerica. The OD button is another story tho' It has been discontinued and nobody appears to make one that I found. I got lucky and a fellow member had an extra one.

Good luck and let us know if you find a source.

Jon,

I think he is talking about the button on the top of the knob. Not the switch down on the shifter under the boot.

Len, Yes a thousand TY's again Sir. :_rock

I guess I got confused when your quote in Len's response was changed to "has been disconnected and nobody" (disconnected being the operative word here) If he is talking about the little button that says 1-2-3-4-R on it...I may have one here. Or I'll bet someone could look for him at Carlisle.

Jon

That was my fault I had a typo...disconnected for discontinued..... by bad.

Carlisle would probably be a great place to find it. I know I would sure like to have a spare one. Dang Vegas valet's like to break stuff here. I try not to use them but sometimes I do.

Thanks for all your help guys. Mid America does sell the entire shifter ass/w od button for $50 and I talked to Ecklers who said they could get just the button for about $18. One more Question and I,m asking because of Tops comment about having an extra one. Do they break easy or often? Thanks again.

You sure the button comes with the shifter? It does with the Auto knob but I believe the button is a seperate item for the 4+3.

Here in Vegas, I have found because it kinda "looks" like an Automatic push button, young valets with no knowledge of early C4's jump in and mash the button down and try to pull it back to drive. Guess the 1-2-3-4-R on the knob is not a big enough clue or the fact that it has a clutch.....lol I tell the valets when I drop it off but that doesn't mean the same guy is gonna bring it back for ya.

My local casino valet knows and that's where I usually go. I roll the dice everytime I go to a Big Strip Hotel, hence my quest for a spare or two.

Len Thanks, I'm gonna owe you alot of your favorite beverage one of these days.

:m

Top, you appear to be correct in the fact that the button does not come with the shifter knob. Now that I have been looking more for this item, it seems harder to find. I called a couple of dealerships in our area and they told me they were discontinued. My plight has been slowed because of this recent developement but I am sure somebody has reproductions for sale maybe Doug Nash. While this missing button doesn't hinder the drivability of the car, I need one to complete my project. If I find a source, I will be sure to let you know about it. Thanks again.
