Where could I find a good procedure diagram for replacing the valve seals? From what I understand it is not necessary to take off the heads. The smoke is blue

Thanks,
Rick

Are you sure it is oil smoke and not gasoline smoke?

Do a search on replacing valve springs or seals. There has been discussion on that . Some say to push a rope into the spark plug hole to fill the cyl so it holds the valve up. I have used an air hose on a compression tester hose to hold the valves up.

You'll need either compressed air into the spark plug port, or a length of nylon cord stuffed into the cylinder through the spark plug port to hold up the valve in it's guide, while you pull the keepers and replace the seals.

Not hard, but tedious... I think Haynes or Chiltons might actually have that procedure in the manuals at the local library.

They're worthless for everything else, except hang in the 'library', read a page, tear, wipe, flush, repeat if necessary. ('crinkle' between 'tear', and 'wipe', if you're tendertushtype :booty) :D

air would be the simplest..but..
with the guides being suspect would it not be prudent to get the heads rebuilt.?

i think that synthetic oil is smoke resistant....:confused

Flash point on synthetic oil is just very high, I believe it still smokes when burned. Also smells like electrical fire when it burns.

Yes it is oil. 84,000 miles. Blue smoke. It doesn't leak oil. It doesn't smoke blue if you get on it. I did that test by having my Dad drive the car while I followed in another car and had him jump on it. The car is pretty much babied. A little fun some times but I want it to last.

I highly recommend Zaino

I’ve tried synthetic and it helped some at around 60,000 mi, but I have to fix it now.

I haven’t tried the Nicoderm CQ though.

Do a compression test and a cylinder leak down test for grins and giggles. Although, usually found on higher mileage engines, worn rings can cause smoke on start up and then go away later, as they expand and seal off the combustion chambers.
