I am looking to buy my first Vette. I am 54, and I deserve it!
So I need some help from you guys to know what are the typical problems and what I should be looking hard at before I buy. I am looking at the 88-96 years primarily, and plan to be using it a lot for highway travel (MD to NJ), so dependability and comfort are important.

Thanks in advance.

Bob,

There's nothing in particular that is out of the ordinary that
will bust on the corvette. I would look at corvettes as I would
any other used car:

1)Maintenance records (private sale: recommended)
2) No frame rust
3) Good paint job and interior--shows car was cared for.
4) Engine sounds good and trans. shift well during test.
5) Take it to YOUR mechanic.

Parts that are expensive: 92-96 Optispark, water pump job:
these go before 100k mi the job is $700 minimum. 2) Auto
trans--should last at least 100k mi or more 3) clutch and flywheel--manual cars--at a dealer, could be $1600. Probably needs to
be done if car has more than 100k, I did mine at 52 kmi.

You should dig into the past posts on this forum, this question has been tossed around a bit recently. Other than replacing my MAF relays and a future rack&pinion job I haven't had too many problems yet (^65,000 miles). I noticed the rear tires seem to wear out disproportionately fast compared to the fronts...
