Help! 88 manual, no 1st or 2nd shift resistance and no drive in either gear

88 stock manual transmission with overdrive

Working fine this AM then suddenly no 1st or 2nd gear. No resistance when shifting into 1st or 2nd. Transmission wont engage in 1st or 2nd but will in reverse 3rd and 4th. Normal resistance when shifting into Reverse, 3rd, or 4th.

Took console side off and looked at shift linkage and from under car and all look sound. All pivot pins and cotters in place.

What the heck is it?

Where do I look next?

Broken 1-2 shift shaft or shift fork, I'll guess. Either way, you'll have to pull the trans/OD assy to fix it.

Thought id post even though im a little late. I just went through the same thing with my 85. Itll never feel the same again once you fix it. And finding replacements are hard. If you have the money, change it for the 6 speed
