Looking to acquire a complete D44 rear end assy from an 89-90 to replace the D36 in my '96.

Are they a straight R&R swap? No surprises?

You'll need a different, yoke, drive shaft and torque arm. Because the D44 is a bit longer, the parts you need are a bit shorter.

It's a complete unit, including the brake assy's. Will I need anything other than the drive shaft, then?

When you've got that whole thing apart do the exhaust too. Woo Wooo. Flowz are good. I heard there's a place in Oakland that's got some cool whistle tips that they install.

Seriously, look at 8388's initial post. It's an easy task provided you get the proper parts. Brakes will fasten in fairly easily and you don't need to un-do anything if they're already on the new axle. Just bolt up the new rear and you're good to go. E-brake will take a little bit of massaging, but once adjusted out, it'll be a-ok.
