I am thinking of buying a '90 convertible, with a 6 spd. On the first test drive, shifting from 2nd to 1st while rolling slowly produced a grinding noise, so I just left it in 2nd. The owner says he took to a dealer, dealer said the clutch wasn't in all the way. I'm sure I did push the cluth to the floor. After doing some research, possibly a master/slave clutch issue ?

Advice welcomed, I do not wish to buy an instant transmisison rebuild.

Thanks.

I bet there is air in the hydraulic system or worn Master/slave.
These master cylinders and slaves are easy to change and both should only about 200.00. After playing around with the 96 , Id say just change those parts out, dont try to bleed.

One needs to push the pedal ALL the way to the floor! Ask me how I know! :L

Air & hydraulic wear & tear can be a problem, but I would guess the pedal travel has a lot more to do with what you ran into.

Bleeding the ZF clutch hydraulics is a tricky undertaking. Check out what Bill Boudreau, the ZF Doc, says on his website:
