My 1990 has 150k + miles on it and just bought it less then a month ago. I'm sure things will go wrong with as much mileage and am totally understanding of that. So to the problem at hand. Seems to start fine when cold, but once it warms up it will crank like the best of them, but can't seem to get her started. My most recent adventure was it seemed to bog down tonight while I was leaving a stop light and then stalled on me. I got her started again, but she seemed to run like she was only on half a bank, or kind of like mis-firing. Have a few ideas: 1. Fuel pump system; 2. Throttle Body dirty; 3. Needs a new gas cap; 4. Needs new ehaust system plus headers (remember dad saying something about cars he worked on needing certain exhaust pressure to allow the engine to complete its cycle, failure in the exhaust pressure would cause the engine to mis-fire); 5. Wife mentioned that her nissan had excessive teeth missing on the fly will which produced similar problems (? Doesn't make much sense to me); Haven't had any test done so I'm open with wide ears on this one. Dont plan on taking it to the shop, plan on redoing it the best I can a giving it to my son once he turns 16 in 14 more years. So I would say I have sometime to get things fixed on this car. Got the okay to put it up on jacks for a while and start messing with it from the wife, so once I get it back in the garage, its probably going to be there for a while. Thanks for the help on this matter.

Also, my tach doesn't work and my power steering reservoir has pwr steering fluid coming out the pin holes in the cap. Any suggestions on that one? Thanks again. I'm sure I'll have more in the future so please be kind with me and not too impatient.

Hard hot start usually means faulty injectors .
Need to check the resistance of each injector. The ECM needs to "see" a certain resistance in each injector bank to pulse them. When hot , faulty injector resistance changes

Tacho problems very common to '90 models.
Generally a fault with the module in the dash cluster.

Your talking about the fuel injectors, right? Thanks.

I had the same problem and new fuel injectors were it, car runs great now but i wasted 800 bucks on everything else.. But, at least its all new now

Were you able to replace them yourself or did you have a mech do it for you?

I did it.. easy job but it took better part of the day. I think anyone can do it, the dealerships will charge you a fortune. and if you run into a problem there are plenty of guys on the forum that will walk you through it.. Plus you get to clean everthing up and it looks great

The FSM have lots of information for trouble shooting. If you don't have one get one they are worth having.
Unless you really have too forget the dealerships, they are expensive to have even simple work performed. You may fare better if you find one that has dedicated sevice personel for Corvettes.
I have done everything on my three vettes from engines to body and frame to electrical. In the event you do go to a dealership make friends, the mechanic will take better care of you.

FSM? Please help on this one? I'm thinking its some sort of manual?

I've got a Haynes Repair Manual, is this considered the same thing?

NO! Haynes cover all your basic automotive repair but does not go into details.

The factory servie manual has trouble shooting, detailed pictures. tech info., specs for your car and many great diagrams.

Lot of members purchase the FSM through companies like Corvette Central, Ecklers, Mid America and others. These companies offer new FSM but you will pay dearly for them around $120.00 plus. I choose to watch ebay and find them. Last one I saw went for $34.00 and change it was new, you can also get slightly used ones too which are just as good.

Thanks, will check out ebay. No sense in paying 120 for the samething when you pay 34+/-5. Thanks for your help.

Fuel Injector Sale!

We have been supporters of this forum since last year. We also have been running sales on our bosch design lll's as we are at present, and yes they have they will fit the TPI engine just by adding an additional o-ring. We supply installation instructions along with additonal viton o-rings. Perhaps you can give us a try! 22lb and 27lb Design lll's original price was $160.99 now on sale for $149.99 for the set! Just go to www.southbayfuelinjectors.com

Okay, so I'm looking into replacing the fuel injectors myself. Can anyone walk me through the steps?

It's pretty basic. Just remove fuel rail and injectors, check the manifold to make sure orings didn't slide off and get stuck. Re-install the other injectors and the rail, and check with fuel pressure on without starting the engine for leaks. If the injectors are for a corvette 85-91, and or a TPI engine and you happen to purchase the injectors from us and they are the bosch design lll's, check the box, there will be installation instructions along with additional viton orings because they will be a little shorter than the stock injectors. The additional oring will take care of that problem. Guaranteed or your money back!

What does the fuel rail look like? How do I check the fuel pressure? I'm new to this, so try to feed me as much info as possible.

As well, the injectors are for a 90 L98 model engine. Not sure if thats the LTI engine. Thanks
