I just spent 2 1/2 hours changing my headlights and fog light bulbs. I know, I know, this was a long time but this is my first Vette so I had some learning to do.

Anyway,
At the moment I only have the Haynes manual and in it they said to get to the fog light bulb all I had to do was reach in behind the light and twist then pull. Simple ! WRONG.

I spent a good amout of time trying to get my hand into that 3x4 inch hole. I couldn't even get close to the bulb let alone take it out. I looked everywhere for an opening but there wasn't one.

Finally I spent some time under the car and noticed two little screws holding closed some sort of hinged flap out of the rubber nose. Sure as sh!t it was the access hole directly under the dam bulbs !!

Wish the stupid manual told me of this little secret.

One other thing. In doing the headlights the manual says to use the manual opening feature to move the headlights around to get at all the screws. The directions given weren't to good. I never did figure out how to do it manually? I see the control motor and the twist knob on top but it wasn't clear what to do. Any help !

Don't listen to Len, he'll lead you astray. :L

The knob you see on the headlight motor is what you use to manually open and close the headlight pod. There should be a wire retainer holding the knob, gently pry that off the knob and rotate the knob in the direction of the arrow (open/close). Turn it until the knob will go no further (until resistance is stiff) to fully open or close the headlight.

I hope that helps you. That's not to say that Len's idea is a bad one, just a little crude. :L

Having just changed my headlights to plastic ones with changeable bulbs, High Intensity Blue. I can tell you how this works...
The metal retainers are used to keep the knob from moving, usually to keep the light up or down, normally it is not snapped in place due to the fact that the knob turns when the headlight moves. Pop the hood and watch as you turn the lights on and off.
First you need to unplug the electric connections to the headlight assembly. There are 2 of the...one for the light and one for the motor. If you try to turn the knob with power applied it will strive to stay where it is at due to the contacts in the motor. Once power is removed then you can turn the knob to manually flip the headlight into the up position, this is a tedious process as you have to turn the knob many times to get a small amount of movement from the light. As the light starts to flip up you will see the torx screws on either side of the housing, remove those and then remove the 2 on the backside to remove the top housing. Then you can remove the plug that goes to the back of the light. From the front remove the 4 small screws that hold the retaining ring in place and the bulb can be removed.
And for anyone interested I have an extra set of High Intensity Blue bulbs and the plastic headlights to go with it. MA and Ecklers sells them for 80.00...I can make someone a deal....

Hey, eagle,
How do you like the new high intensity blue bulbs? Are they any brighter? How are the light coloration compared to true HIDs?

The difference is like night and day...wish I had done this sooner. It is unbelievable how much clearer and brighter everything is.
I would highly suggest to everyone to replace the headlights to the plastic ones with changeable bulbs...it also saves on the headlight motor as the plastic ones are 1/10th the weight of the glass ones. Installation is a breeze. I have an extra set if anyone wants one...
