Hello everyone,

I am new to the forum. I am having an issue with the PKE in my 1995 Corvette. I purchase the car from a friend, it did not come with fob. I recently purchase one and tried to sync it up with the car, per the instructions in the owners manual. The PKE light will not flash or even come on. I search to see if there were any other insructions for setting up the remote, but there isn't.

I notice in the the past, that sometimes the PKE light comes on and stays on. This will happen when I'm driving or when I turn the car off. For me to turn the light off was to take the key out of the ignition and put it back in. I thought when the light would come on, it was an indication that I did not have a fob, and it was informing me about the PKE.

I was wondering did some of the members have experience this issue and may have a solution. Please let me know!

PKE may have a problem.
Troubleshooting instructions for that system are in the '95 Service Manual so that's the best place to start.

You can get FSMs from CAC sponsor, Zip Products.

When you try to enter PKE programming mode if the PKE tell tale light does not come on solid
most likely the key in ignition switch is not functioning. If you insert the key in the ignition
and open the door does the chime sound indicating the key is still in the ignition?
If no sound, the key in ignition switch is dirty or needs adjusting. That requires the steering wheel
be removed.

Verify you can communicate with the PKE module. If you can't get into diagnostic mode that would also
point to the key in ignition switch not working.

Key in ignition
Ignition Off
Use a piece of wire or paper clip and connect Pin 8 to Pin 5.
The Passive keyless entry indicator lamp will flash trouble codes indicating proper operation
faults of specific parts of the system.

DTC 12 Receiver memory bad. Example DTC 12 would be flash pause flash flash long pause next code.
DTC 13 Transmitter not in range. Example DTC 13 would be flash pause flash, flash, flash long pause next code.
DTC 14 Non valid transmitter received
DTC 15 Valid transmitter received
DTC 16 Passenger door button depressed
DTC 17 Hatch button depressed
DTC's 12, 13 and 14 display the current state of the system.
DTC's 15, 16, 17 are actual functional codes which require the transmitter to be in range as confirmed
that the receiver has functioned correctly. The PKE system does not store DTC's.

Diagnostic connector located above drivers right knee.

Here's a you tube video that is similar to the corvette steering column.
Around 8 minutes into the video he shows the key in ignition switch after he removed it.
When the key is in the ignition switch the contacts on the switch are made.

Red arrow in the photo below points to the key in ignition switch.

Thanks alot

I went through some of the old service records and found out that the previous owner had some issues with the ignition cylinder and the dealership replace it. I will have to start with the dealership to pinpoint to if the problem was created by them. Again, thanks members for you knowledgeable insight.:cool!:
