I recently changed my Water Pump on my 77K mile Vet. I got all wires and hoses back to appropriate places(?). I hooked up the battery cable and she fired right up on the first try.(She had been sleeping for about 2 months in my garage). The first time that I took her out she ran fine, but the next time she started running rough and there was carbon on the tailpipes. How do you set the fuel/air mixture on this 350 cu in single cam engine? Any thoughts are appreciated!
Thanks - STZVET

You don't need to change the fuel/sir mixture. You need to repair the engine controls such that the engine is not runnning rich.

Some carbon in the exhaust outlets is normal. How did you decide the engine is running rich.

Had the check engine light ever been on?

Have you run the fuel pressure tests in the Service Manual.

What's the car's service history as far as the ignition system?
