My old R12 unit had a leak and I decided to convert the system to R 134A. Bought a retro unit from Ecklers for four bills and had it installed last week. Turned out well and believe me that in this La heat you really need the air. Ha! Going to try it this weekend when we go to the 6th Annual Texas Style Hot Summer Nite's car show and swap meet in Beaumont, Texas.
