I have a 1990 L98 that still has the original (R12) A/C. Yesterday I turned the A/C on and the compressor cycled 4 or 5 times at approximately 3 second intervals, then cycled on for about 10 seconds and stopped all together. I have checked the A/C fuse and checked for loose wires but all seem ok. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

Thanks in advance your help!

Sounds like it may be low on Freon. I would hook up a set of gauges and check that first.Something you could try ,locate
the low pressure switch and jumper the two wires to see if it runs, if it does either the switch is bad or Freon is low.
don't run it to long,If Freon and oil is not circulating you can damage the compressor.
