Hello everyone,

First off I'd like to thank everyone here for sharing their knowledge and making this site informative. There is a wealth of information on this forum for all to utilize and that deserves many thanks.

Now, my question is will an '85 a/c wiring hardness fit an '86. Also does the engine wiring hardness for an '86 have the connecting wires for the starter. I bought an '86 vette with the following wires either completely damaged or the protecing plastic melted but functional (due to unkwon extreme heat and not a fire):

a/c(the protecting palstic was melted, some wires were damaged)
starter(the protecting palstic was melted but still functional)
coolant temperature sensor(damege, on the right hand side underneath the head)

I found a/c wires for an '85 on ebay as well as the enigine wiring hardness for an '86 and I want to make sure I can use them as replacements before I buy them. Many thanks for the info :)

Not sure of when change made but the early cars had all the power feeds off the starter terminal and the later cars have a terminal block on the firewall behind battery. My '87 has terminal block and I know '85 had starter connections. Check yours to see where all the heavy reds ( some with fusible links) come originate from Nothing that can't be worked around but obviously easier if straight swap

Thanks for the reply vetteoz, I checked and found that I have all red wires with fusable links behind the battery as well. I'll keep searching for an answer :)

I would be looking for a '86 or later harness .The '85 engine has a lot of one off differences to the '86-89 cars. In any case I don't see why you can't just repair the damaged wiring instead of replacing harness
