Ok, so she's not so much to look at, but I see a diamond in the rough.

here's another of the nose, I am in the process of tear down getting ready to lift the body. I got all the parts for the lift now I just have to build the dolly and put up the hoist.

Here's the interior with its oyster color scheme, I'm considering black carpet all around and black cloth racing seats with a black and grey tweed seat and back inlay. I'm not sure if i'll dye the dash and stuff yet. How hard is it to dye parts anyway?

well, 69myway I'm gonna strip the interior out (after 10 years of being wet it's pretty nasty in there) and then I'm gonna lift the body of. I'm gonna POR 15 the frame black.

If i dont want to pay someone to clean my frame, what's the easiest do-it-yourself way to get it clean enough to POR15 it? I was thinking maybe an angle grinder or using a wire wheel somehow ?

Then I have to get to work replacing all the rusted hardware in the nose. Once I get the headlight header bar replaced You will be hearing from me, I'm gonna install killer lights. If it's alright I may come get them personally and take a look at your set up.

Tom

Tom,
I blasted my frame with a simple sandblaster, you know the syphon type you just stick in a bag of sand and let her rip. Well if you have a air compressor that is. I did mine in July 3 years ago and the heat kicked my but but it took it down to the metal....My safety glasses stayed fogged up.
I used a metal cleaner on the frame and and shot the Por-15 with a spray gun. The vapors are dangerous so use protective breathing appartus. You can brush it on fine too and it will not leave brush streaks. The surface has to be clean for it to stay put. If it gets on you it becomes part of you until it wears off..
Where are you from in Florida?? I grew up in Jacksonville on the west side..

tscott,

My Vette was not much different shape than your is. In fact it also sat for 10 years in my backyard. I tried to keep it dry, but sometimes that did not happen. One day when I found where mice were living in it, I knew I had to do something. I am now down to the frame and welding all of the seams before I finish it up with either POR 15 or the Eastwood coatings. I know exactly what you mean about the diamond in the rough, I still look at my project and wonder just when does the diamond start showing! Going with mods like Killer Lights really makes C3 Vettes have a nice touch to them. I definitely plan on using them. Keep us up to date with your progress. My Vette is also a 78, so if you have any questions along the way, feel free to email me; I may be able to help.

Nomad78,

Seeing your finished frame really shows some light at the end of the tunnel for me! Right now, my frame is totally torn down, and there is no way but up from here. Hopefully, mine will look as nice as yours does! Thanks for posting the pics.

Bill

Bill,
I know what you mean by all torn down. I completely disassembled mine to the last bolt. As I was cutting a weld on the front crossmember, the disk exploded hitting me in the throat cutting me from the chin to the jugular. Doctors tell me I should be dead and cant explain how it did not permantly mess me up because of all the stuff in your neck....
Needless to say, I have a lot of blood in my restoration....
Mine, the chassis set for so long as the body was being done that some of the suspension started rusting..Go figure..
To this day I have buckets of bolts, washers and nuts everywhere not to mention all those other things I bought on e-bay just in case.
I moved in the mist of my restoration which caused stuff to go into nowhere land...
I took my rolling chassis to a big car show and rolled it off the trailer...Can not tell you the crowd that wanted to look it over. When I fired it up with the sidepipes and no mufflers it was like to cool. People all around it just smiling or freaking out....I cant tell you how many people asked, What is it? and How do you make it run with no body?
I know how much hard work you have ahead of you and hope you have a bucket of money to go with it for all the while I am at it stuff.

Hi Tom: Well, your's looks better than mine does right now. At least you've got paint on yours. I really don't wanna post any pics of mine until it's done. I'd be too embaressed!:eek

Dave: Wow! I need a :drink

Neil,

Man, I am glad you are OK. Thats pretty scary getting hit like that. I worked at the shipyards as a welder/mechanic for 8 years, and got hurt a couple of time, but nothing like what happened to you. The worst thing that happened to me was a flywheel off a GMC 1271 (12cyl) diesel fell on my wrist and cracked some bones. Silly me, I was removing it with an airgun, and as soon as I pulled the last bolt, the flywheel just fell off. I was not ready to catch it....I have never had one just fall off like that before, or since.

I bet that firing up your Vette at the show was very impressive! I would have loved to seen...and heard that!

I cannot image having to move with the Vette torn apart. I would be afraid I would lose something really important, and not know it until I needed it. I guess you would have to inventory everything really closely to prevent that.

Bill

Bill,
Sounds painful too..
When I moved stuff just vanished..can't believe how hard it is to misplace something...lets see, I"ll put it right here so I know where it is..right..I may find it again after I have bought another one
It was a lot of fun the times I took it out without the body and let it run..Should of done that more to be honest
The other day I pushed it out of the garage and fired it up for a while. The guy and his son that was sheetrocking my house just stopped working and came out. Man they were crawling all over it. Turns out he has a 74 vette.
Looked up and the UPS man comes around the side of the house and spends a while too.
Funny how these cars attract people..
Did not take enough pics of how stuff went together either...Funny how you become clueless at installation time. The AIM leaves a lot for the memory to fill in.
I am starting on the wiring harness now, the interior one first, Put my heat barrier down iside and laid the harness out to make repairs and ect..
Got it ready to go in but do not have the fuse box mounting bolts or the retainers that go on the firewall.
Oh well, I will chill out until tomorrow
