One back fire thru the carb is all it'll take to produce this result. Burned right thru the foam. Get a metal lid on those air filters. I imagine those K&N extreme lids could produce similar results.

Any good 14" low-profile type air cleaner will work. K&N filter element for higher flow and washability.jloran said:Any remendations on what i should put on mine!

Chaz,
How did you manage to build the alternating picture show of your fine car?

As said ... any good 14" assembly ... the factory assembly is just fine. As far as elements & flow ... go buy the cheapest store-brand paper element ... they flow more than the Big$ elements ... but do change em regularly. Do run the tallest element you can without the lid or wingnut hitting hood. We run cheapo 14x4 in our circle track car.jloran said:Any remendations on what i should put on mine!

The same thing happened to my 78. My brother tried to start the car one day in December of 95. It didn't start. So, he sprayed down the airfilter with STARTING FLUID and it still didn't start. It turned over, back fired and CAUGHT FIRE!!!1970 Stingray said:One back fire thru the carb is all it'll take to produce this result. Burned right thru the foam. Get a metal lid on those air filters.
