He looked over my 85 vette and says it is sparking!

He says it needs new plug wires? Is this true? I noticed that some of the wires are zip strapped to the metal wire holders, could this be the reason? The wires do look stock original.

Should I get new plugs, which brand of plugs?
-which distributor cap?
-which plug wires?

CHEAPS place to get them?

plug wires...

Buying cheap plug wires is false economy.

But the best you can afford, MSD, Taylor, good ones.

I agree, Buying the best you can saves time and money in the long run.

Don't forget to replace the wire holders, too. The O.E.M. plastic ones tend to get brittle from engine heat and age and often break when you go to replace them.

Run the car at night or in a darkened garage. If the spark plug wires look like the northern lights then, yes, you definitiely need new wires. Buy the best ones you can afford.

Oh, and don't grab the wires.

About 25 yrs ago I had just installed an msd 6a into my 73 camaro, yup they've been around awhile now. I finished the install and took it to the drag strip to see how much it improved performance. It was a huge disappointment. The car sputtered when approaching higher rpms and the e.t. slips were dismal. I drove home and parked in the drive, it was night time now, and when opening the hood with the engine running, it looked like a lazer light show was going off under the hood. Every plug wire was arcing to ground in several locations. I learned real quick what high energy electrical systems do to wires not isolated from ground points and weak insulation. I changed to moroso blue max wires, running them thru wire looms and not just zip tieing to convenient studs etc. Never had a problem after that. I learned my lesson.

There is not a thing wrong with Blue Streak Standard, I really like there Amid-Core wires too!!! They will really take the heat, and you can pull a engine with them if you have too!!:upthumbs

Taylor 8mm wires and AC Delco Rapid fires. You can get both through ecklers. and they work great

As mentioned, start the car in a dark garage, or at night outside, and look under the hood. You'll be able to see any sparks.

I replaced the plg wires with AC delco along with cap & rotor and plugs all AC delco. Now the car lights them up from a stop and has alot more power.

My original plan was to fix a few things and sell it at a profit. But now a got a raise and now I can support my rock star life style and drive two corvettes. I'm living the american I mean Canadian dream.
