Well, today is the last day my buddy has his '65 vert. He decided to sell this car he has had for about 4 years and the buyer comes to pick it up tomorrow.
I think I'm more sad about it than he is.
I met my friend when we were in college together 20 years ago and at the time he had a really nice '73 coupe w/ sidepipes. He almost always had a vette since he got his first car at 16 and he got a '64 vert. He has since had a total of 5 Vettes including this '65 that is leaving tomorrow.
Throughout the years I would see my friend, than lose touch with him (i used to move around a lot), than eventually see him again. Last year when I got the "itch" and decided it was time for MY dream to get a Corvette I got in contact with him and using him as my "expert" we spent months looking for a car for me. He used his own car as my education on what to look for when out searching for a midyear and a number of times after I bought mine we got to take both cars out together for a nice drive or to a cruise show.
The interesting part of him selling it though is that the buyer first heard about him possibly selling his car through someone else. After speaking to my friend on the phone the buyer realized this was the same car he used to own and sold about 7 years ago. the buyer has bought and sold LOTS of vettes but this '65 supposably was always his favorite and his young daughter always referred to it as the "Breakfast Car" as he would take his daughter out to breakfast in it on Sun mornings in nice weather.
I hate to see my friend selling his '65 but at least it seems to be going (returning!) to a good home and to someone that will care for it and that's the important part
Because of other financial commitments at the moment my friend isn't replacing the vette immediately (or else he would never have sold it) but decided that in about 2 years he will start looking at some used C6's to replace this '65.
I'll miss my friends car and being able to go out cruising with him together but at least the car will go to a loving home (geez, sounds like finding a home for a beloved housepet that you can't keep anymore but you care a lot about!
)
