my vette is 1991 conv after driving aprox 75 miles it will come on this happens regurly after aprox 75 miles

In my 1992 LT1 "SYS" began to flash a few days before the battery died!

My 91 Vert does the same thing. I have watched the temp gage and as soon as the car reaches 180 degrees or so the light comes on. It only does it the first thing in the AM. Once you shut the car off it will not come on again for the rest of the day. I think it must have something to do with the EGR vacuum porting from the thermostatic switch. I tried to retreive code but like I said the SES light and code are cleared if I shut the car off and restart. Doesn't seem to hurt anything so the heck with it till it stays on all the time. Does yours stay onn after restart??

Dear Randy,

I am sorry but I must have picked that up wrong: I am speaking of the SYS light while you obviously need info about the service engine soon "SES" light - sorry!

No problem. It probably lost something in the translation :) .

Borrow a scan tool and review the history codes. That should get you off to a good start. Once you get the code, we can help with the diagnosis.

I was just at the local AutoZone. They offered to lend me the scan tool, which I studied and found to be of no help with OBD-1. :( It was OBD-II, for '94 and newer, by the docs. :w

Vette-Dude,

I have an 87 and the code for my Service Engine Soon light does not get cleared when I shut the car off. I dont think it should unless your 91 is different. The only way i know of reseting the code is by unhooking the battery for a length of time. I was just curious. Why is everybody talking about checking a code for the SYS light, I am not sure what this is?
