ABS and Traction Light on in Dash

ABS Failed

HI there,
The codes here are not as critical as your NO COMM. This shows that your ABS control computer is not talking to the rest of the control computers within the system. So the P1571 and the P1644 are both a result of this.
If memory serves, there will be a subcode which cannot be accessed with an aftermarket scan tool.
I would suggest that your ABS control computer is no longer any good, and it would need replacing.
Please keep us posted, c4c5

Hi c4c5,

Me again. Just expereinced an ABS failure. Received the P1571 and P1644 codes and the 28-TCS NO COMM. As a mechanic novice, can I replace the ABS control computer? If so, any tips?

Thanks.

Thanks C4C5, I found that the plugin at the ebtcm had pieces of plastic in it from when someone had unplugged it and then must have forced it back together. I cleaned all of the pieces aou and then plugged it back together and all is OK. Thanks, Daryl (cwmoss)
Glad it was simple fix for you. Those are the best kind, if you have to have a problem.

HI there,
Yes, it is a plug and play.

HI there,
First, your P1571 is not to be valued.
This is normal code in the PCM for all 1997 vehicles as long as it is H and NOT CURRENT.
Next, please recheck your P1281, as this is NOT a code listed in the GM database for the 1997 model year.
Now, the C1278 is byproduct of your P1125, this is only saying that the ABS.TCS has been disabled for another code set in another module.
So, concentrating on the P1125 is what you need to do.
This is for the drive by wire system for the engine.
It sees a fault and commands reduced engine power till it knows that the signals can be trusted.
So, first, make sure that all wiring along the fuel rail IS NOT touching or rubbing though.
This can be checked specifically at the back of the drivers side fuel rail crash bracket near the fire wall.
Let us know how you make out.
I will duplicate this response on the other site you have posted on.
Allthebest, c4c5

Hi Again,

Just expereinced a Traction Control failure that resulted in a reduced engine power condition. Codes were:

P1125 H C
P1281 H C
P1416 C
P1571 H (I know that this is not an issue)
C1278 H C
38RTD - NO COMM

When I cleared codes, engine power returned and I was able to drive home.

Just checked again and I see a P1416C code.

What should I do???

Thank you.
