The needs service message comes on in my "97" periodically when I start it, and stays on until I shut everything down and restart. Sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't. It never comes on when I am driving. Has anyone else had this problem??? Does it really need service or is it a DIC problem.

Hi there,
I would suggest that you retreive codes from the DIC, and post them here.
From there, we can assist in what is going on.
TCS module would be what we would be concerned with here.

c4c5 Thanks for the quick response. As a new owner I have no idea how to retrieve the codes from the DIC. Can you explain or tell me where I can find this info??????????
Thanks again

HI there,
Please start your car, and clear the DIC using the reset button.
Then, push and hold the #4 button, while pressing the #1 button 4 times. Then release both.
So, have a pen ready, as the codes come quick.
It will be your second module, and will show,,, 28-TCS, and the code.
Write it down, and post it.

c4c5, thanks for the info on retrieving codes, I not only got the code on the traction control service message but on several other items. Wasn,t sure of the signifigance of these codes, so I thought I had better send them.

28-TCS--------C1243 H
99-HAVC------B0361 H
80-Radio------U1016 H
60-IPC---------U1160 H
10-PCM--------P0463 H, P1571 H, P1626 H

Is their a website that you can get information on these codes or do you need the Corvette repair manual???
Best Regards and thanks again for your help

Hi there,
Well, your 1243 for the TCS shows that the control module sees that your ABS pump has stalled, or is not fuctioning correctly.
This is tough, as it is located at the rear of the vehicle, attached to your rear subframe, behind the differential.
As for your PCM codes, the 463 shows an issue with the left side tank sensing unit, that has higher voltage than is supposed to be seeing. The 1626 is for the fuel enable signal from the BCM was not received. You may have experienced a no start at one time or another. The 1571, as long as it is H, is a normal condition on the 97 year, and can be ignored.
Radio and IPC are communications codes, and can be disregarded, unless they become C, for current.
The HVAC, shows a short within the left hand actuator. You may be able to rehome the system, by disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 5 mins, and see if the code resets.
I would go for professional diagnosis on the PCM, and the TCS problems.
Hope this helps, c4c5:hb
