AC-Heater Bezel Source?

I have a 77 that I am freshening up. Look at the attached picture, it seems I might have a weird bezel for the ac-heater controls. Ecklers and Mid-America list a clear lens for the 77 controls, but I have this black one (I dont think I am missing the clear lens, but I don't know?)

I was prepping this piece to paint it when something went wrong and the paint came out horrible. (Cracked and too thick) I was hoping I could just replace this piece with a reproduction and not have to repaint all the raised white lettering, etc.

Any one else have this bezel in their car? Any ideas where to get this piece from (catalog house, website?)

I wonder if maybe a previous owner had replaced the controls or maybe I could look at my VIN to see if maybe they were at an end or beginning of a production run and snaged some parts from another bin to make production?

I could have swore that I have seen this bezel in other Chevy/GM cars of the era - or am I remembering things that never existed??

Your feedback would be very helpful as I have not looked around and found nothing on the web or in catalogs that is helpful. I do have the factory assembly manual and it shows this piece as the correct item, so that is another reason I can't explain the clear lens listed in the ecklers/Mid-Am catalogs.

Regards,

Bill Hart

PS. Here is the Ecklers page in their website that shows the clear lens bezel.

This is a two piece unit on the 77. I just replaced the whole unit purchasing it at www.tld-corvette.com. This was the guts as well as the face plate and glass.

Your link to the glass has a link for the face plate below it. http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?pf_id=A9414&dept_id=1649&mscssid=HVGLMBW6BUSR2L8K00N0SM2EPT57C4Q0 You will need both of them. The black piece attaches to the a/c controls and the clear goes over the top of it to protect it. Without it you will find that you need washers to get the face plate to attach to the console correctly.

Holy Cow, Im a Moron

I don't know how I missed it, must have been mesmorized my the image of the clear thing. I do remembering seeing a picture in the Mid-America catalog of the whole assembly and it didn't have raised lettering, rather painted lettering on a flat surface. I must have assumed that it wasn't what I was looking for. By the way, I looked thought the Ecklers catalog for about 45 min and didn't find it. Should have posted this message first. You guys are the best.

Thank you for pointing that out, I will order both then. I have no idea what happened to my clear cover??? This was my dad's car and I never remember him ever having it on. Must have been discarded by the previous owner.

Thanks a bunch!!

Bill

If he was ever under there and had the unit off the center console the tabs on the clear plastic piece break off very easily and you put it back together without it cause it takes a week to get the part and it doesn't seem that important until years down the road when the painted letters have all worn off.

Bill - I have one of those face plates in stock for $13.74. I cannot however, get you a lens. Let me know if interested.
