My AC vents are not working. AC blows cold but only through the defrost vents. I have a 95 coupe with the electronic AC control. I have replaced cruise control vacuum piece under right side fuel rail cover. That got my cruise working. Someone told me that it might impact the AC vents as well but no luck. Has anyone had this problem or seen any repair info on it?

Do a search here. You will find tons posted about your problem.

You have started at the right place with your vacuum check valve.

Now it begins to get a little tricky.

This problem happens to every single late model C4 vette.

Good luck!

If you can, please let us know what you find to fix your problem. Lots of folks out here would love to know what solutions were found by you.

I just fixed my 96 today with the same problem.....air blowing out defrost & floor only. There is a black box right above the gas pedal with several colored lines coming from it. This is called the vaccum programmer . It controls which doors open up from your control on the heater, ac control..
ok back to the black box...I found the easiest way to work on this without breaking you back is to remove the drivers seat and disconnect the electric on your seat if you have a power seat'''only 4 bolts holding it on.This gave plenty of room to lay down and look up.After removing the the seat, get a flashlite or droplite and lay on your back and look for the black box right up over the gas pedal Look for the green connecter which your colored vaccum lines are coming from.make sure the green thingy is tight against the box and all the vaccum line are intact, put a bunch of pressure on the connecter and sqeeze hard and at the same time have someone work the heater controls . Start it up and set on auto-60 degrees and see if air blows out the dash..Some times the problem is a loose connecter..they are real flimsy..
Unfortunetly on mine my programmer was shot and I had to replace it with a new one...PART # 16227376 FOR MY 96..It was expensive too....$1059.38..I got mine from a freind from a chevy dealership that happens to be parts manager..got it for $582.66 plus a $25.00 core charge. I think they are cheaper for 1995 and earlier models...
Before you start anything check to see if there is anmy codes that come up on your heater ac controls...To check for codes do the following..........
1/........push the up and down fan button at the time and wait till the ttemp goes to 00.and then release and hold the fan button in between the arrows and see if any codes come up.....If codes come up then you will have to find out what it is....maybe on the web or dealer....or parts store.......
I hope this will help you out.............john............MY 96

I have to differ with ya lt4man. The manual control has worked perfectly and cannot cause the associated problems with the auto climate control option.

My damn air goes where I tell it to.

Mister tlong:

I do not understand your post. You say you have manual controls. Then you say they do not impact auto controls.

The original poster, wannaC6, says he has the electronic AC control.

What the heck do you mean???

Please explain.

Thanks.

I am saying that your all inclusive statements are incorrect. Every single late model C4 vette doesn't have this problem as stated. Only some of the auto climate controls and none of the manual exhibit this tendency.

You often paint with a broad brush sir. That's all. My point is some options are far more trouble than they are worth: FX3, Sport seats, Bose Gold, Auto climate etc.

Thanks for your clarification!

I kept rereading your post and I did finally understand your point.

You are correct. A number of C4s came with the manual controls. Very trouble-free. Very easy to work with and find answers to problems.

I owned two other C4s with electronic air. Had no problems with those whatsoever.

Have had issues with my 96. Seems to work OK now. With the help of this forum, I was able to get to the root of the problem.

I happen to have the other options you mentioned. All have been perfect.
Knock on wood! :D

As far as brushing with a broad stroke! I will reserve the right to do that! :L
