Good news!.....

The Gas Pedal rocker has busted into two pieces (Good one GM making something you put your foot on outta plastic)

Problem is the thing is on a riveted hinge to the pedal and on the firewall it seems to be bolted.

Has anyone had any experience with this thing? Could someone give me the steps involved in changing the piece and IF the piece is even available?

Now that its busted my pedal can swing side to side and even make it as far as the clutch pedal (Nice!)

Ya know aside from the fact that Im a Corvette lover im really starting to hate GM and all the BS that goes with em!

:mad :mad :mad :mad :mad

Is it just the pedal assy?

Or the whole mounting to the firewall assy?

Vig!

I could go take a picture tommorrow but I'll explain a little further.

Go up about 7 inchs on the metal pedal you'll see a hinging rivet, connected to that is this rocker that bolts to the firewall. If you look up the pedal you can see it clear as day. This is BEFORE you start looking into the mass of wires etc.. in the dash.

If that doesn't help I'll grab a picture.

The metal is fine the cable is fine but this rocker has bust into 2 pieces ones still connected to the metal pedal and the other is still on the firewall.

I was thinking of using PL Premium (Wiley Coyote Glue for bricks and near everything else) But Id like to replace it as this is a dangerous piece to have break at 40Mph in city traffic. As it is the Gas pedal can get wedged behind the brake (NOT GOOD)

(Help! Lol)

;help

IF memory serves

the pedal assy comes out as a complete unit.

At the plastic pivot assy there are 2 10mm nuts holding the pedal assy to the firewall.

And this IS a bear to get OUT.. the PIA is releasing the the cable assy FIRST.

Oh

So it's wrecking yard time....

I did this on my 88 the pedal was "melted"

Like somebody stepped in some ACID or something that reacted with the plastic...

Very weird....

Vig!

Vig why do I have to remove the whole Pedal Assy? I think I can work on it while its in place. Im just curious as what to do with the pivoting rivot and if this plastic thing is available.

Ok Im unclear

"but this rocker has bust into 2 pieces ones still connected to the metal pedal and the other is still on the firewall."

This I assume is the pivot for the accelerator which mounts under the dash on the interior firewall?

Correct?

It's not just the broken pedal.... right?

Vig!

You got it bro! The pedal itself it fine!

Just this rocker/piveter whatever is busted

LOL sorry for the confusion

Sooooooo

Just get the entire pedal assy piviot & all

Vig!

Dude! I have to replace the works?!

(ignorance..)

Is the whole thing expensive? Vs the time and energy into replacing the pivot?

From a wrecking yard

$50-60 TOPS

45 min max ( including contortion time)

Vig!

The plan

Tha accelerator assy is just the lever ( including the piviot & pedal assy)

The pivot point is held on the firewall by 2 10mm nuts

Then all you have to do in unsnap the accel cable from the top of the arm.

Unclip the accel cable from under the hood FIRST!

Then reverse......

CAKE!

Vig!

And you will

have to drop the hush panel.....

Eh good deal eh

Hey so you hoser... now the trick will be getting it in.

Eh take it off Eh

Vig!

You make a chity Canadian!

its

Take it of EH! You gotta say with with wit and pride! And don't use it before a sentence, thats a dead give away that your incognito!

But like I hear what your saying its like I talk funny like its to cool like the way I talk like right on man ROFL

Thanks for your help Vig that was great ending up with a new pedal.

Ok Installation:

Can I simply remove the cable under the hood of a pulley to create slack? (Not sure if I can do that on this car never thought of having to do it)

Then is the pedal on a support of some kind? I got the stoopid Hayes book and it doesn't go in length about this procedure (Of course! Why did I even look!)

And how is the cable held onto the pedal?

Thanks again
