I have a '99 six speed and I never really liked the feel of the shift knob. So I replaced it with a black(with white shift pattern) billiard ball type. Getting the metal wedge out of the old one was a struggle, but worth it. The new one looks great and gives me more of a performance feel when I shift.

They just did an article on exactly the same thing in one of the Corvette magazines. Glad to hear that you got a "handle" you like. :cool

Thanks for the information Ken. MY metal wedge was really, really hard to get out!
I did not want to "hurt" my old shift knob taking it off, but it got to a point I didn't care anymore-I had to get it off! I finally had to drive a small screwdriver down beside the front of it with a hammer. Visegrips alone would not budge it. Finally, by pulling with the visegrips and pry with the screwdriver. However it was worth the effort! Jack

shifter knob change

I also found a shifter knob that is distinctive, well made and comfortable.Team Voodoo out of San Diego makes great knobs for the Miata and their "Miatanistos" and they make a version for the corvette out of titanium or billet aluminum.I really love mine -a globe of pearlized aluminum... Check them out...!!! shb
