Question for the group. I'm pondering adding an aftermarket TPI FI system to my 72 LS-5. Would an aftermarket hood provide enough clearence for the air cleaner?

It depends on what kinda TPI unit you have in mine, the RAM JET that GM sells seems to be bit too tall even for a hi rise hood sold by Ecklers. Have you considered going for Holley or Edelbrock? I have Edelbrock Multipoint EFI on my BB and I just love it!

If you mean TPI, as in Tuned Port Injection, as in the system used from the factory on Camaros, Firebirds, and C4 Corvettes, then it will clear the stock hood.

Anything else would just be "EFI," and clearance will depend on the system you choose. Some will bolt right in place of the carb, yielding little or no difference in air cleaner location. Others might require extensive modifications to fit.

If you can narrow down what you're looking at, then someone may chime in with an "I have that, and it fits" or "I tried it, and couldn't make it fit"

EFI for a '72 BB

I'm looking at the Edelbrock, Accel, & Holley EFI setups.
Hoping to use the stock BB hood, but wouldn't mind the look of a L-88 type aftermarket hood.

Engines stock, thinking about headers with either the flowmaster dual approach or the side pipe approach.

Any benifit to adding roller valve rockers, if I intend only low RPM
use idle to 5500 rpm?

Excuse me if I ask questions that have already been asked, not too sure about how to go about searching archives.

I believe that all of those setups will fit, but it would depend on the exact manifold height. Your best bet is to call the manufacturer and ask, as they should have a pretty good idea what fits on what cars.

As far as the other things:

Sidepipes rock! But there is the burn risk, so bear that in mind... Check out Spiral Turbo for pipes, baffles, and heat shields. Several people here are running their baffles, and seem happy. I think one of our members may actually be a distributor for them - I seem to recall reading something about a discount for CAC members.

Roller rockers (even roller-tip rockers) are free power. They simply reduce the friction, so you get more for less. As long as you don't mind spending the money, I think they are a good investment.

TPI will of course not fit as it was made for small blocks. I guess you meant Port-EFI.

I have the Holley EFI system on my LS-5. I did a write-up of the install which you can find on my page:

Getting a EFI system under a stock BB hood is close to impossible. Flareside from the corvetteforum tried and ended up with the injectors pointing out towards the valvecovers. Maybe it works, he hasn't finished the engine yet. It was all custom, though.

I can tell you that the Accel ProRam will fit under an L-88 hood, but just barely. It will not fit with the air chamber and drop base air cleaner. I'm in the process of installing the Gen 7 system (77502) on my ZZ502 as we speak. Looks like there will be some hood work required to get outside air to it.
