with the 60 vette, they use an engine mount that attaches to the top of the motor and then around to the side of the frame. I would like to convert from that mount configuration to a more conventional style with the mounts grabbing the bottom side of the motor.

I have a mid 70's 350 block.....a few questions...

1. can I buy some mounts that will weld on to the frame to mount the motor to?

2. where can I buy them and how do I know what to buy?

3. I will have one of our vendors from work that is a fabricator do the welding on this for me....I am assuming that the way to do this is to mount the motor with the conventional mounts and then figure out where the other mounts when assembled need to be welded....is that right?

4. anyone ever do this to a '60 frame and if so, what things might I want to be on the lookout for?

Yes

There is such a kit, I don't know who makes it but I'm sure someone will chime in before I can find out for you Friday. I have discussed it with someone that has done them and it's simple as you said, with the engine in place, you simply weld the new ones in and bolt them up.

should I get new original mounts so that the motor is in the right place with good rubber and such, then weld the new ones in place? otherwise I would be using my old ones and while they had the motor in place for sure, I can't say that they are still 100% good 45 years later......thoughts?

I think Corvette Central offers a kit (301235) for a pair of motor mount brackets to take the C2 (replacement) locking mounts, but they will require cutting and welding as they are not made for an exact fit.

I did something similar on a '62. I did it basically as you described by locating the engine where it is supposed to be with the motor mounts attached and then welding the mounting brackets to the frame. Any good shop should be able to fabricate some mounting brackets, that way you can be certain that they fit.
