Do air bags have an expiration date? Do they have to be replaced after 5 years, 10 years, 25 years, 50 years ???????

Anyone out there with a good technical knowledge of air bags that know the answer?

I believe the airbag is designed to have a shelf life of at least equal to the anticipated life of the car.
So that raises another question, what is the anticipated life of a C4?

My guess... 50yrs. can be expected.
But designed life is something else. When a product is designed there is a life expectancy that is designed in. Other wise we could never afford one. I was under the impression that the design life for automobiles is something like ten years and/or 100,000 miles. The parts/pieces are designed to go that long. After that it is how the car is cared for and maintained.

I also posted this question over on the NCRS board to see what response they would have.

Generaly it was thought that the airbag in the car should outlast the replacement supply maintained by GM :) So when it does come time to replace, there won't be any to replace it with.
