I've gone through 3 air conditioner compressors on my 2000 coupe since picking it up a year and a half ago, luckily all under warrantee. The last time it was due to a very noisy compressor. Now with the latest new one, something in the air conditioning system is still very noisy, I assume it's the compressor again but it's a different sound this time. It almost sounds as if the air conditioner is competing with the engine as it winds out during acceleration.

Is this a common problem or is it just me?

Hi there,
While I do NOT know the service history on your vehicle, or how it was serviced, I can only speculate.
First, maybe there was no oil put in the compressor before installation??????
Maybe there is a clutch alignment problem???
Maybe the compressor is NOT torqued correctly to the block?????
Anything is possible, however, I would be concerned.
Corvette AC compressors have been extremely reliable, as I have only done 1, and that was for a seam leakage of R134.
