As I said in a previous post, I'm still getting to know my '02 Coupe so I need to ask you more experienced owners about the expected life of the front airdam components. My airdam rubs going in and out of my driveway, and it seems to make some minor occasional contact whenever I drive the car. Our C5 is an everyday driver, so I'm wondering how long the airdam will last. The car is stock height.
What's your experience/opinion?

it will last quite a long time, it may look scraped up after a few months on the very bottom egde, but wont actually break. Its connected to a brace with springs and it will move back under light and heavy hits.

If it really becomes annoying you can even go as far as to trim it down, I cut mine about 1/2 inch.

RKMason,
The air dam scape is one of those unfortunately realities owners of C4s and C5s have had to learn to live with. Most minor scrapes, if you hit a driveway with some grade on it for example, aren't a problem. It was designed to take that kind of use, even if the noise makes you wince.

Whatever you do, don't remove it- it's an important part of your air intake system to keep the engine cool.

I've had 4 C5s and each scraped my driveway every day. Never had to change an air dam. They look a bit raggedy after a while, but as they get a little shorter they scrape less so it is somewhat self limiting...

My front spolier is really low to the ground ... to leave or enter my driveway, I have to take it on an angle. Don't worry about scraping the air dam ..they hold up pretty good. Occasional ground contact won't hurt it. :D

Check out this front spoiler ... been there for 2 yrs and still looks good.

Good Luck ... :w Dan

It will last quite well up to that moment you shear it off with a parking bump stop.

Never replaced the 98 or 03 before. The spring loading helps.

If you have Ride Control, switch it to "Sport" mode when going over speed bumps or turning in/out of driveways, it tightens up the car and doesn't scrape as much.
