Jim,

First, welcome to :CAC

SPAL made the twin fan setup that came with my Dewitt's aluminum rad.

I ran 502 cubic inches in the hottest weather you can imagine, including idling for several long periods, without even the hint of it getting too hot. This IS the way to go.

Unbelievable!!!

Some basic things to check - I won't elaborate because you'll find tons of info in the archives.

1. Timing - is your vacuum advance functioning?
2. Fan clutch - is yours working properly?
3. Shroud seals - at high low speeds air flow is critical - cannot afford gaps between the shroud and radiator.
4. Radiator condition - how old is yours? How was it maintained?

Don't trust gauges in car

Don't trust your temp gauge in your car unless you have recently checked it against an infrared gun.. gauges have been known to be off as many as 25 degrees.. Check timing first..

Jim - If your car is running well on the open road and only heats up when in town and such, check the vacuum advance. Had the same issue with my 65 and that's what the deal was. Changed the vacuum advance pot and it fixed the heating problem.

Well looks likeI'll be busy this weekend. THanks for all the info I'll let you know about the outcome
