Aligning door panels Need Help - Website has pictures

Hello, I am in the middle of trying to align my door panels. I have had the body off and I noted what I thought to be the number of body mount shims but they were really rusted together.

How do I go about getting the proper alignment?

I have the door mounted now and there is a large gap at the top of the door on both sides... I have no shims under the body.

Do I add the shims back? Whats the easiest way to get back to oem specs?

Go to my website for pictures. www.vette-restoration.com/help.htm

Thanks
Mike

Without the original number of shims you have to do it by trial and error. That is why it is important to make note of what number of shims are in each location. You can add to the back to raise it and close the gap but you have to be careful or you will start cracking fiberglass. Since you added your own body mounts you have to start from scratch anyway the new mounts are not in the same place as the originals.

Thanks, after a long day in the garage I managed to get it kind of close. I looked on the net at a few other vettes and I am getting close.
