ALL Black ZR1 Style Wheels

In the not too distant future I plan to get the black ZR1 style wheels I have for my '89 Ebay rat painted ALL black (these wheels currently come with a small silver lip--I really like the wheels, but I think this will really make my life complete). I have seen a number of tuner cars with all black wheels, and like the look (I have no taste), especially since the rat is dark gray and almost black. If anyone has done this, please let me know, but I will post pictures when I can find a place here in Houston to do it properly (I painted the COrvette engine emblem myself just fine, but don't trust myself on wheels).

Thanks,

The kicker with all black wheels is the contrast between the tire and wheel... in many lights the tires look dirty, or just odd. the silver lip breaks up the black visually. (even the knight rider trans am had a silver lip)

Either way you go, good luck

I agree...

Plus the silver lip will accent the aftermarket exhaust that you may already have or are planning to get.

Its a great look !!!!!

I'm planning on this as well but it'll be on a white car. :D

I'm going to take my 35th anniversary emblems off and put some other emblems on there. With the emblems getting so rare, I don't want to take a chance on anything.

I like the look of the 35th with white ZR1 wheels... so clean looking:) black is more sinister, it all depends on personality and taste in the end!

Thanks, everyone, this is fun! My first trick will be to find a place locally that can do the job without giving me a lot of b.s. about "how difficult it is", "how expensive it is" blah blah blah. I'm sure you know the drill--bend over and... I went through the same bit when I tried to get several places to install new carpeting. Finally, I did it myself and it wasn't that big of a deal at all. You know, I find myself getting more and more good ideas from the tuner car crowd. Too many Corvette and muscle car types have sort of taken on a trailer queen mentality. Maybe they've just got too much money. In wheels, tires and lots of performance type stuff the tuner crowd is where lots of the boy racer fun is now.

I would seriously consider, since you have 88+, the black C5 rims that I recently saw in MidAmerica. They are not the Y2K 5-spokes, these are different. They are 18"s but that will fit.

I have the black GS rims on my white 86, and i love them, but i'd really like to see those new ones on the car too.

Yeah, I saw those, too. They ARE nice, and will keep my eye out for them on the street!

Chris,
Look into powdercoating your wheels. Maybe you can't retain the polished lip but PC is very durable, much more so than any paint. Few more bucks though.

i painted mine. got them used for 100 bucks all 4. 2 were 9.5x17's and 2 were the 11x17's.

still haven't mounted them yet but i did 5 coats of primer, 5 coats of flat black, and 5 coats of clear satin acylic.

Thanks! These look great! I found a place locally on powdercoating, and just need to get over there and see what they say.
