About 4 months ago, I found an ad for a car with Dymags on it... Unfortunately, the owner was not terribly flexable on the price (the ad was only 2 days old at that time). Anyways, I found the new ad and the car that was $8500 was now dropped to $5800 bucks :eek - Great price, afterall, It did have Dymags on it in really nice shape :)

Well, I wasn't going to buy it but, in a conversation, a fellow CAC member said he was looking for a set of 17" Dymags to run on the street for his Callaway - worry free...

I asked if he wanted buy a car - take the wheels off it and resell it for close to the same $$$'s :D

Today it happened - a deal was stuck - for LESS than the asking price and the new owner has a set of Dymags for the street - with a Corvette attached ;LOL

I think he will take my advice - pull the Dy's, put a set of stock wheels on it and it is like free wheels, after the resell :)

There is more to this story , but I will reserve that for the new owner - Remember, It pays to belong to a group like this :m

Tony, That is a great price!! The power of information & the internet :m

Here's another pic of the car - it has a nice ZR1 tail conversion and pearl paint :) (I don't wanna give it away, who scored the Dy's yet ;) )

Dang it :D I saw that ad months ago when it came out. I called the number in the ad about 12 times and the guy never returned my call. I had planned on doing the exact same thing.

Surf, I looked at the car back in Jan. maybe, Feb - it was awhile ago... I offered the guy 1 grand and set of stock wheels but he said "they really make the car w/ the zr1 tail and all" (or something to that effect ;) )
Anyways, Ad came out on a Fri and I was looking at the car on that Sat - he was waiting for a better offer - dropped his price to 5500 bucks this past week and a better deal was still had than that :eek

Wait 'till you find what the new owner found, stashed in the trunk:hb

The new owner must be having a blast. I haven't heard from him yet :s

You're Saying....

This car went for less than $5500?

Will the real Slim Shady please stand up? Comon guys.. who stole this car? Sounds like a good deal was had. :) :;

Is there beer in the back of that truck?

There was a keg in the back of that truck, but it was used to finalize the deal :D

Beer? That's for sure.. the guy wanted Coors Light but I offered him Yeungling and he knocked another $500 bux off the deal. :drink ;LOL

The price on the deal was truly phenomenal. The guy threw in the car with the purchase of the wheels. Oh, and a car cover!

Then, to top it off, there were 4 additional NEW centercaps in the rear compartments in the original GM packaging. Two of them are still factory sealed and are un-opened!! :)

The car has 106k miles on it and about 4 hours worth of interior and motor cleaning will make it look a-ok. It's got some seemingly minor mechanical issues.. all of which I'll repair before passing the deal onto someone else. I did buy the car specifically for the wheels and will keep them!! Dymags rescued successfully!

If anyone knows of someone looking for a clean '85 Vette with a cool white pearlescent paint job and a few performance bolt-ons.. lemme know. Sawblade wheels are going on next week...

I was starting to think that I wasn't going to be able to sell it during the winter but for every seller there is at least one buyer out there somewhere!

The car was "for-sale" for close to 5 months and I was at the high-end of the price point for a car with a lot of performance mods.

I tried Ebay and only got mediocre results. I could've gotten what I paid for it no problem which suggests that Ebay will follow overall average market values. Plus, no one from Ebay looked at the car in person so I wouldn't expect it to sell at above average prices.

It was also advertised on Autotraderonline.com for the entire 5 month ordeal and it generated a fair amount of interest. I received several inquiries but no takers. Only one person actually test drove it from that site.

What's the moral to my story? Well, I had just as much interest by parking this car out towards the front of my driveway... and had more legitimate interest from that. I spent about $120 on advertising and in reality-- I could've sold it with that still in my pocket. I guess every car has it's market and marketibility pluses and minuses and if I had to do this all over again with a similar car, I'd advertise it heavily only in the region in a "paper" format (i.e. Autotrader, Autolocator, etc)

For the time being-- Thank somebody! IT'S GONE!

Eric - I know what you mean, I have had nothing but garbage inquiries about my TA for sale...

One fella wanted to trade a 78 caprice w/ a 350 4 bbl, another wanted to give $2500, plus payments while another, sent me this... :(

Hey thanks for getting back to me Ive looked at so many and emailed alot of
people about the GTA's that I've forgot exactly which one was yours...

Id really love to buy one man its just that my
f*@#in my parents dont wanna hear it cause its an "old car and old cars
bring old problems" you know the deal probably, but the thing is if i found
one that is in as good shape as you say it is, I know i could presuade them
other wise you know what I mean? Anyways...
I am not even going to respond to an ad like that, :(

the old saying should be changed to read "Seller Beware"

At least you got a nice set of Dymags out of the deal :beer
