ok, ever since everyone convinced me that I needed wipers onthe car, and the alternatives don't seem very good....still cable drive even if you use the alternative system....I have been wondering if there wasn't another new type of drive from another car that we might be able to adapt to the C1.....my C1 never had the wipers on it since I had first go it.....so I am trying to visualize that the wipers are in the middle of the car and move up and out together and then sweep back to the inside of the windshield....what other type of cars use that same motion of the wipers, could be that I could adapt another transmission mechanism, shorten or lengthen some pieces and have a non cable driven unit.

Seems to me with the right amount of determination and will power and some good luck I might be able to find some parts to do it....so, any ideas, suggestions, I am not against going hunting to see what I could find or could be made to work.....photos also would be a help to get started......

comments? ideas?

corvette central

corvette central has a new wiper system.. but it's $499

I have often thought the single wiper system used on the rear window of SUVs and wagons could be adapted to a street rod I used a single bosch wiper from JC Whitney on my 52 F1 pick up.

Now that isnt a bad idea.....just have one windshield that functions, the other one can be just show......that would be a good way to go.....I had looked at the single motors and drives on EBay.....that might just be the trick....because.....

I really don't plan to drive the car in the rain

If I get caught out in the rain, I will wish I had something, probably don't need both wipers but for sure need one wiper.

Recently got pulled over in my gals truck for a safety inspection, voluntary, but never the less, they did check to make sure the wipers worked.....if I could figure out some kind of transmission arm arrangement....to get them both to work....but using the single motor to get at least one of them to work is a good idea....and rather than spending $500 or mroe to get it, you can get motors on Ebay for the reat glass for under $50

anyone else got some ideas?

One of the Mercedes models from the early 90's had a single wiper system that covered both sides of the windshield. It worked with some sort of cam that allowed the bottom of the wiper to sweep almost as far either direction as the top of the wiper. Pretty cool, but I haven't figured out how to make it work on a C1.

I don't want to make new holes for the wiper drives, I plan on using the originals....I have seen the type of drive your are talking about in action in Germany before, but that arrangement won't work with the corvette without serious changes. Also I don't think the windshield is tall enough for that to work as well.

Keep thinking.......

Well anything can be done if you throw enough money and time at it, but there is a good retrofit systen out there that works well and gets the wiper motor completely out of sight. The system can be bought for a little over $400, and includes everything you need. I can't imagine that you are going to be able to get a system that works any better than the SPW system or end up with any less in it when your are done. Just making a set of transmissions that have the correct size shafts and the correct angle mounting will probably eat up that much money. I have been known to spend countless hours fabricating parts that nobody produces, but if there is a good alternative out there that works well and meets the asthetic goals, I will use it! The only reason that I did not use the original system on my 59, is that I wanted a clean firewall. A total side benefit was that the SPW system cleaned up under my dash considerably. The system is not without it's little installation problems, but it is nothing that a couple of passes on the belt grinder will take care of. The transmissions can be installed right like they come out of the box, but it is much eaiser if you get rid of the unnscessary materail around the corners. Regards, John McGraw

I looked at a 60 on Sat and it had a system other than stock. I do not know what car it was from but not C1 Corvette.
