I did the magnet thing and it didnt stick, but the cover suggests its cast iron (two bolts at opposite corners).. I doubt i have aftermarket heads. Anyone have pics so i can verify before i buy the parts i need. Thanks

I think any of the following say aluminum heads.

1. Angled spark plugs.
2. Pull the oil cap, if they are the 86/87 aluminum heads the last three numbers (vissible) will be 128.
3. If you have centerbolt valve covers. (this one Im really not sure on this, I know the f-bodys have centerbolt and iron heads. But i think the centerbolt vettes were all aluminum)

Best bet is with the numbers.

If the magnet doesn't stick it is most likely Aluminum, pull the valve cover, cast iron will be dull grey while Aluminum will be silver to be sure.

One of my books says that only the early production 86's got the iron heads before all production engines used the aluminum head.

In 86, aluminum heads first went on convertibles only. The coupes got them late in the model year.
