I have tried this before on several forums, but thought I might try again. Anyone know a better (easier) way to get these wheels clean. The last time I did it, I took them all off and used a buffing machine and mothers polish. Unfortunately, my mechanic drove in the rain last week (how dare he), and it needs it again. I don't really want to because it is a time consuming process. If I had the money I would buy those chrome dipped ones in Corvette Central, I think those are the bomb.

Would you be interested in having YOUR wheels chrome-plated????
:confused

I would definitely be interested in something like that. I wasn't sure if I could do that to these wheels or the cost to do it. Do you know where I could check on that? I'm in Louisville, KY, so I guess I could call around and see if anyone here knows how to do it. I'm not sure if it "devalues" the car because it is not original anymore. But considering I found out recently that my car isn't the original color, I'm not sure if it really matters.

Since I don't know (nor care) how-to post pix, gimme your E-mail address, and I'll send you a few pix of my chrome-plated wheels, done in early '02.
Got a few of them on the car, but can take a few more exclusively OF the wheels themselves.
If you want, or others want to see them, you can post them here.....

I would agree with that.

I got tired of polishing the aluminum wheels also and agonized over buying those same factory wheels chromed or stepping up to 17" chrome wheels. After doing the math it was slightly less to buy 17" chrome wheels and tires. I decided for the same money to step up to 17" wheels. I received the 17" today and expect the tires on Thursday. Going this route i should also see some performance improvement.

How much did it run you back in 02?
$135/each.....

Can't be beat;
had considered 17" ZR1 wheels, but had just replaced the original Eagle GTs with 15" BFG TA Radials, so instead of replacing brand-new tires, I had my wheels chrome-plated...

if you polish what you have

I still have the aluminum rims and the flitz polish has worked better for me than anything else. Aluminum is a pain. Ever thought about getting them polished by a professional and then clear coated?

You would keep the factor look and they would clean easier much like todays modern wheels.

Just something for you to think about.

Glengages, got your e-mail. That is the way to go. Now I know what I want to do after I paint it.

if you want, go-ahead and post the pix here. If anybody wants the shop's name, I can post it's name and address here, too....:upthumbs

The wheels, as you see them, have approx 300 miles of dust on them since their last washing, with water-only, and still look great!!!

After I took the pix last night, the G/F & I took it for a quick dinner at my neighborhood joint, and we pulled-in simultaneously alongside a new C5 with aliminum wheels.

The older C5-owner looked at my wheels, and just shook his head.....

I am not a pro at posting pictures either. I just sit here at work dreaming of my new red paint and shiny chrome rims. :)

DENISE:

I received your E-mail, regarding the chrome-plated wheels for your '00 C5, but when I tried E-mailing you the same pictures, I was received notification that I can't send them to you.......

:confused :confused :confused

Any ideas?????

Maybe LanceB can send the pictures to you instead.....?
