Took her out yesterday for a 10 minute run to see how the new exhaust sounded. On the way up my street I hit the power button for the drivers window to put it down. As that window was going down I hit the other button for the passenger side and as they both got about half way down they quit. Fuse with pink wire looks ok and I know there is a relay under or in front of the gear shift lever. Is there a fusable link under there also????

:cry

Just wrote to say, I feel your pain, brother!

I know it's not any help to your problem, but I can totally relate to your statement, "Always something..." On the bright side, at least we have Vettes to obsess over!

Thanks for the lift. Got home and took the center counsel out and located the relay. Jumped the wire that plugs into it and have functioning windows. I would think a new relay should do the trick....I hope. I have been non stop on this car since Friday night!!!!! Thanks again...time to tip one and button it up

:crazy :beer

Don't see a fusible link in the equation.
Relay is fwd of the shifter, 4" to the left of car centerline. Wiring leaves relay and goes to left/right doors, fuse panel, horn relay and a breaker on the firewall, left of the brake booster. This is 68 info, my diagrams for the 73 don't show power windows.

I will look ther for the fusible link. The books I have are not showing enough of what I need to see. I did jump the wire at the relay with a live wire and the windwos work... so I know the switches and motors are good...thank god

I have a very small metal box maybe 1 inch by 1 inch behind the brake booster mounted next to the emissions sticker with two studs and two wires hooked to it

Is this what you are talking about? Book calls it a breaker assy. I still don't see a fused link, shouldn't be if you are running windows thru the fuse panel and the breaker.

Thats it

Thats what I see....what does it do? took the one wire off of the relay in front of the shifter and hooked a live wire to it and the windows work...so im thinking its that relay????? and if I replace it and plug the origional wire into it that should do it....I hope

Not sure what it does but if you put a meter across it it should not read open.
I don't have pwr windows and my books don't have pwr window wiring included.

Im not sure...I just touched the test light on the one connection and it showed hot and on the other connection (negitive? nothing). On the relay inside in front of the shifter there are two plug-ins...one plug is a double connecectin and the other is a single wire connection. I took the single wire connestion off (did not read hot and hooked a spare wire with a plug that was just laying there and hooked it to the wire that was hooked up to the relay and I have windows. I will replace that relay and see what happens....one time I wish I had cranks....damm what a pain...thanks for all of your help...I really appreciate it.

Joe: That small metal box on the firewall is the TCS relay. Should have no effect on your power window issue. Do you have a 1973 GM Corvette Shop Manual?--G.P. Black

General

According to Ecklers the small one under the hood is the power window breaker and the one inside the car (in front of the gearshift) is the relay. I unplugged the single wire on the relay and hit it with a hot wire and the windows work....so i was thinking that relay was the problem. I have 3 books on this car but not the one you have....but im going to get it.

Joe: The item shown above in the sketch posted by 68 Roadster is not a power window "breaker". It is part of the 1973 Transmission Controlled Spark system--an emissions system/device. I have an extra original 1973 GM Corvette Shop Manual. I am going to send it to you. E mail sent to you.

The item in the sketch is a 30-amp self-resetting circuit breaker in the feed to the power window relay; relays have spade connectors, not threaded studs and nuts.

JohnZ is correct. Relays do NOT have threaded studs and nuts.

There is BOTH a power window circuit breaker and a relay. The relay( GM Part no. 4450898) is located in the interior center console. The power window circuit breaker is in the engine compartment area. It is mounted a few inches from the TCS relay. The TCS relay is a small metal box--without threaded studs. Specifically, the circuit breaker is usually mounted on the side of the "power brake pedal bracket housing". Breaker is mounted adjacent to the 73 emissions decal that is located on firewall area. ( Breaker is GM Part no. 4860166.)

Page 431 of the 73 Factory Assesmbly Manual shows the location of both the power window relay and circuit breaker; and the wiring system.

For photo of the power window relay see Eckler item no. 29300. For photo of circuit breaker see Eckler item no. 40926.

Update

Just an update and finishing this thread up for any of you who run into the same problem I did. I ordered both the relay that goes inside the car and the breaker under the hood. After replacing the relay the windows still did not work. I then replaced the breaker under the hood and that did the trick. Total cost for both parts....$57.00 from Ecklers

Congrats Joe.....now you have a couple of spare parts in case they ever quit manufacturing them. Not a bad little investment in my eyes.
Glad your windows are back to working.

Hopefully next week I will have 2 brand new brake light switches that I have been waiting on ACDelco to manufacture since December. 9.00 a piece but almost unobtainable.

Have a good weekend.

Thanks

Thanks Cee...I sent you an e-mail.....have a good weekend!:w
