Another Badge Question.

Ok, my recently acquired 1994 LT1 6speed has some modifications. (excuse my vocabulary, as I am an amateur when it comes to mods and pretty much car parts in general) It's got an air rammer intake, shorty exhaust headers, and custom mufflers (and maybe even the cat is gone? Can't tell, yet) I don't know if the chip is stock, but with these other mods, I'm thinking not.

A previous owner, I'm guessing the one who made these mods, put an LT-4 badge on the car.

My questions are:
Will this offend people that actually have LT-4s?
Is this a bad/good idea?

I don't like mis-representing my car, but technically it is no longer an LT-1, so what should I do? Should I remove the LT-4 badge, or leave it and have to explain it all the time, or put an asterisk (*) next to it?

Ehh, I'd say lose it. I never thought those badges looked that nice anyway, and especially if the badge doesnt' match the build sheet. One look at the gill panels from a '94 will show it's no LT4.

It's definitely not an "original" LT4. The previous owner (or previous ot him?...etc.) could have done 1 of 2 things that I can think of to warrent the LT4 badge:

1) Did the LT1 to LT4 convertion kit.
2) Pulled the LT1 out and either dropped in an LT4 crate motor or used LT4 motor.

It would be worth looking into to see it any of the mods to your car are one of the 2 above.

As far as the badge goes, it would probably remove it as well. I do like the LT4 badge, but it's not an original LT4 corvette.

I don't think too highly of anything I own to worry about what someone else wants to do with their stuff.

If I had it, I would take it off though. Is a LT4 car a LT4 because of the motor or because that option was chosen that year? I believe there would be a variety of opinions there. If it was an original LT4 motor or a LT1 fitted with all the parts that make it a LT4 then I believe a LT4 badge would be appropriate if one would chose to apply it.

Some people will probably tell you it is not appropriate for engine designation badges to be placed on a car where that particular motor option was not available. The LT4 was an option only on the 96 C4's and came only with a manual tranny. In addition, all of the LT4's had a specific engine paint design that was not found on LT1 motors.

Outside of the ZR-1, Chevrolet did not put an engine RPO badge on their C4's so the one you have is really an aftermarket one. GM does offer the components in kit form to build the LT1 to basic LT4 specs, but it still would be a modified LT1.

I would lose the badge. It is either an LT4 or not. No dif than putting a ZR1 badge on non ZR1. JMHO. Guy

FWIW, one way to remove them is to get some 3M General Adhesive Remover and some dental floss. I spray this on top of the badge to get it to run down into the foam. Wipe any excess off the paint, try not to let it run down. The stuff is "safe" for cured paint, but I'd rather keep the exposure to a minimum as it is a solvent.

Then take the dental floss like you'd floss your teeth, but run it behind the badge to cut into the foam like a saw. You can saw like this to cut the badge off the car, then you can much more easily remove the foam. Apply more adhesive remover as you go, and you'll probably need a few pieces of floss as the foam will break the strands.

Once the badge is off, carefully remove the remaining foam and adhesive. Then clean the area afterwards to remove any leftover remover. You can wash the car or use some QD or whatever. Just make sure to get that Adhesive Remover off the paint. Then you may need a light polish or paint cleaner to remove any scratching under the badge or any shadowing.

I can look all you want, but all I'm going to see is engine stuff. At least that's what I call it. I've had a person that has a 95 look at it, and he mentioned all the mods. I started seeing the parts in catalogs, and I already knew it wasn't an LT4 (saw the mention of the painted engine), so I decided to ask how important it was that I take that badge off.

The car is in the shop now getting new header gaskets, so maybe I can talk to the mechanic (a real nice guy and a real car guy) and see what he thinks about all of the changes.

Sorry, I've always been a driver, and I am just starting out my new phase of life as an auto-mechanic in training, apparently. More info to come as I learn it.
