Will switching the exhaust on a stock C5 with a C5 Z06 (axle back) factory muffler set up improve performance and sound, or do you need to have the entire system from the manifolds back? I know the Z06 manifolds are different.

Basically, am I better off changing to a Magnaflow axle back system or going with the OEM Z06 muflers?

Thanks

You will gain very little if any performance from changing the cat back exhaust. Cat backs are all about the sound. Going from a stock C5 to a Z06 Ti exhaust will not be much of a change in sound although you will shed some weight.

Why do manufacturers advertise a 15-20 HP gain if doing catback is just about noise? How can HP be increased with more flow? Do we have to do headers to tail? I have heard that changing headers only increases HP by 2-4HP so what is the deal here?
