OK heres what I got. 01 coupe w/ auto only mods are Blackwing, Airduct, Corsa X-pipe and Indy mufflers. I want to purchase a set of headers but here is what I need to know:

Should I go w/ long tube or shortys?
If i go w/ long tubes do I need to run different Cats.?
What will give the most power and what can I expect?
Who makes the better header, either short or long?
How hard is the installtion for either?
Will I still be able to keep emission items and avoid SES light?
And w/ the other mods and headers plus a little work on the PCM, could I expect
400hp at the crank and around 350 at tires?

Thanks for the advise
Anthony

Go with the Long Tube headers. IMO, shorties are a waste of money. LT headers will definitely give you more power gains. Some people have gotten as much as 30-40 at the rear wheels with the LT header/high-flow cat pairing. There are several different manufacturers, and quite a few of them have a good product. JMHO, but I'd look into the LGM LT headers. I believe they sell them paired with the high-flow cats and I've heard lots of good things about them.

expected HP gains- My experience

Just got my car back from Texas Speed and Performance in Wolfforth Texas and I now have 90 more horsepower .Mods were RKS headers, LS-6 intake manifold, Stage II 5.3 litre LS-1 heads package(Patriot Performance), 228/ 228 Comp Cam, new plugs, wires and 180 deg thermostat. I am currently using the K+N FIPK and Borla stinger quad exhaust. The 2000 6 speed dynoed at 310 BHP at pre mod and over 400 BHP ( at the wheel) after all was done with LS-1 edit and the dyno.I kept the stock cats in line....The guys at Texas Speed did me well- they are really great...

Long tube headers are really the only way to actually make power.

I would recommend Kooks as the newest stainless headers out there..at a very good price.

I think you can get the random flow cats and x pipe all at the same time from Kooks....

Have a good ls1tuner do the headers along with other mods...and you should get close..

You might consider doing a mild 224/224 114lsa cam ..

If you did the kooks headers/high flow cats/xpipe/ cam install with dual springs..along with ls1edit...I'd say for 3500 dollars..you'd be at an extremely civilized and reliable 385rwhp...

I recently saw in one of the magazines Vette? that they hit 350 rwhp with bolt ons...

Its kind of hard to believe they got past 340rwhp...

I also saw a recent article about AFR heads on a stock LS1 cammed motor with headers making 421 hp..with the 224 cam..they rolled over 500 hp flywheel number

224/224 114 lsa seems to be about what you can get passed the emissions sniffer..(NJ is even tougher than Ks,MO w/ emissions)

I went with this mild cam and its like a stock car except the added hp!

I say forget the bolt ons..and go for the 3500 cam and header kit..

I know of a guy in St Louis that is a pro at doing the installations..

Email me if your interested in using him..

Don't do the installation yourself..Its a pain in the butt..
